Capital Fashion Week Review

Booth Experience
After weeks of preparation, the time finally came. I remember packing my car and saying to myself: this is it! I arrived at the Government Conference Centre (GCC) early to make sure I had enough lead time to set up my booth. I had invested a lot of time and money planning my booth set-up and was both excited and nervous at the though of making a good impression. Although I had done a few craft sales in the past, a simple table clothe wouldn’t just cut it in terms of décor at this high profile event. I made sure my inventory was spectacular, invested in table lamps, jewellery stands, a banner and also made sure that my overall appearance was polished as I wanted to position myself and my jewellery line as a professional business. The response I got was phenomenal! My booth, myself, and, most importantly, my jewellery made a solid long lasting impression. It was an amazing feeling to create such a buzz and incredible experience to meet so many wonderful fashion forward people! Magazines editors, stylists, fashion bloggers, fashionistas, people in-the-know, friends – it was the place to be and to be scene! All in all a privilege experience I am proud to have been part of.

Runway Show

Capital Fashion Week also meant my first runway experience as a designer. My Spring-Summer (SS) 09 Collection was being featured with established Montreal Designer Valerie Dumaine’s SS 09 clothing collection. I was excited at the thought of my 1st runway showcase and also to meeting up with Valerie in the morning to coordinate our appearance. Valerie and I meet at Le Marche MTL a few years back and we have kept contact ever since. She arrived early morning the day of and I had the opportunity to go behind the scene to help out. I met with models, hair stylists, make-up artists, models as well as other designers; one of them being Montreal Designer Anastasia Lomonova. While I was waiting for Valerie to complete her fittings, magic happened between my limited edition pieces and Anastasia’s SS 09 clothing collection… meaning I got to be featured with both Lomonova and Dumaine’s collections. Both presentations wowed the crowd! Call me a softy, but I was all teary eyes!

Celebrity Spotlight: Stacey McKenzie

Needless to say I was all excited for the show to start on Saturday night. I asked Rachel, GCC Commissionaire, to keep an eye on my table while Aran and I were off checking out the runway. It was exciting to be part of the crowd… the room was packed, everyone was looking fabulous, all waiting to live a moment in history! But something was holding up the show… which made me even more anxious! Turns out we were waiting for Top Model Extraordinaire: Stacey McKenzie.

Turns out Ms. Mckenzie was checking out my booth! That's what was holding up the show! It was worth the wait ;) I had to opportunity to met with her in between runway presentations, as well as to accessorize her outfits for the rest of the night! She's one sassy lady!

Special Thanks

My husband Erik, Aran Flynn, Suzanne Grundy, Petra Kenny, Sheri Chiprout, Maryse Benge, Barbuzzz, Capital Fashion Week Staff, Stacey Mckenzie, Suzanne Boulanger, Rachel (GCC), Melanie Love, Noelly Sam, Anastasia Lomonova and Valerie Dumaine.
