Interpol released its fourth studio album at the beginning of the month. Reviews have been mixed for the eponymous album, and so is mine; I love the first half of it, but I think the second half descends in a downward spiral of moody atmospheres and musical dead ends. But the first five songs are really, really good!
Montreal's favorite Arab/Jewish duo
Chromeo came out with their highly anticipated third album,
Business Casual. I haven't had the chance to sit down and listen to the whole thing yet, but listening to their first single
Don’t Turn the Lights On, looks like the guys are on top of their game!
Electronica superstars
Underworld have also just released a new album,
Barking. Reviews have been mostly positive - musicOMH stating that it's '
a mostly-solid album... well worth a listen' and Record Collector reaffirming that
'after six albums, Underworld remain the UK’s leading old-school dance combo'. It's on my to-listen list of the weekend!
But for me, Underworld will always be the band I loved at end of the 90s, during the Trainspotting / rave / British invasion era.
Born Slippy.NUXX, one of the title track of Trainspotting, is the ultimate dance track, released at the peak of their popularity. I don't think they'll ever recapture that magic, but it sure was fun while it lasted!
